Safeguarding at Good Grants

Online privacy and security go beyond cookies and consent. Safeguarding helps protect the safety, privacy, and wellbeing of all users, including children and at-risk individuals.

Good Grants provides flexible configuration options to support safeguarding across your program.

Important: regulations for protecting children online vary by country. If your program involves minors, seek legal advice to ensure compliance.

This guide provides general configuration guidance only and is not legal advice.

What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding refers to measures that protect the health, wellbeing, and rights of individuals. This includes protecting user data, privacy, and safety within your program.

How can I support safeguarding?

If additional consent is required (for example, for users under 16):

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Settings > Users > Registration
  2. Add your policies in the 'Consent' area
  3. Click Save

You can also update the default terms link in the footer by contacting support.

Collect only necessary data

  • Limit user and application fields to essential information only
  • Avoid collecting unnecessary personal data

Configure age verification and consent

  • Add fields to capture age (for example, numeric or dropdown fields)
  • Use conditional fields to display age-specific messaging or requirements

Involve parents or guardians

Use action flows to:

  • Notify a parent or guardian of a minor’s submission
  • Require approval before submission

Moderate content

  • Use moderation to filter submissions
  • Approve or reject applications before reviewing
  • Edit submissions if content needs to be removed

For additional screening, consider a qualifying reviewing stage.

Provide reporting options

  • Add instructions for reporting inappropriate content or behaviour
  • Use an About page or content block
  • Include contact details such as email or phone

Good to know

  • Moderation can be used to pre-screen applications before reviewing.
  • Conditional fields help enforce age-based rules and messaging.
  • Action flows can support consent and approval processes for minors.
  • Safeguarding requirements vary by region—always confirm local compliance.
