Leaving manager comments

Manager comments are internal notes that grant managers can leave on applications in Good Grants. These comments are visible only to grant managers.

Manager comments:

  • Are not visible to applicants or reviewers
  • Are not included in feedback rounds
  • Do not influence reviewing outcomes

They exist purely to support internal program management.

When should manager comments be used?

Manager comments can be useful in a wide range of scenarios, including:

  • Leaving notes related to billing or payments
  • Providing context about an application or applicant for other managers
  • Recording internal thoughts or observations for future reference

Programs that use moderation are especially encouraged to use manager comments. Because moderation decisions are applied only once per application, manager comments help other managers understand why an application was approved or rejected.

How to leave a manager comment

Manager comments can be added from two locations within an application.

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Applications
  2. Click the application name or ID number
  3. Add your comment in either of the following locations
    • 'Overview' tab: use this location for high-level notes about the application
    • 'Application' tab: use this location while reviewing the application content itself
  4. Click Save comment

Can manager comments be exported?

Yes. Manager comments are included by default in the entries export within the 'Comments' column. These comments can also be included in custom exports if required. Learn more in Ultimate guide to exports.

Good to know

  • Manager comments are visible only to grant managers and are never shared with applicants or reviewers.
  • They are excluded from feedback rounds and do not affect reviewing results.
  • Manager comments are included in standard applications exports. Custom exports can also include manager comments if needed.
