Good Grants gives you flexible ways to distribute applications to the right reviewers. You can manually assign applications, create reviewing panels, or use tags to automatically control which applications are included in a panel.
Using tags is especially helpful when:
- Moving applications between reviewing stages
- Assigning applications by language
- Assigning applications based on specific field values
Below are common use cases and how to configure them.
Moving applications between rounds of reviewing
For multi-stage reviewing programs, tags are essential. Tags allow you to control exactly which applications move from one reviewing stage to the next.
For full instructions, see Moving applications between reviewing stages and selecting winners.
Assign applications by language
If your program supports multiple languages, you can use tags to assign applications to language-specific reviewing panels.
Step 1: create language tags
- In the Manage workspace, go to Settings > General > Tags
- Click Add tag
- Enter your tag name (e.g. French, Spanish, German)
- Click Save
Step 2: tag your applications
Apply the appropriate language tag to each application from Applications in the Manage workspace.
For detailed instructions, see: What are tags?.
Step 3: configure your reviewing panel
- In the Manage workspace, go to Reviewing > Settings > Panels
- Click New panel and select your form
- Enter a panel name
- Select the appropriate reviewing mode and score set
- In the 'Applications' section, select the relevant categories and/or chapters
- Under 'Tags', select the language tag (e.g. French)
- In the 'Who' section, select the role or specific reviewers
- Select the relevant round in the 'When' section
- Click Save
Assign applications based on a specific field value
If your application form collects information that affects reviewing (e.g. grade level, region, division), you can use automated tagging to assign applications accordingly.
For example, you may:
- Separate primary and secondary school applications
- Split amateur and professional divisions
- Route applications by industry sector
To configure this:
- Set up automated tagging based on the relevant field
- Apply the tag rule
- Select the generated tag when configuring your reviewing panel
For detailed instructions, see: Automated tagging.
Good to know
- Panel names are not visible to reviewers—use clear internal naming such as "Round 1 – French".
- Tags can be combined with categories and chapters for highly targeted application distribution.
- You can also use the Using the Reviewing fast start at Reviewing > Manage for guided configuration.
- Automated tagging reduces manual work and ensures consistent panel assignment.
