In Good Grants, you can create parent–child category relationships. This allows you to group related categories, making configuration and reviewing easier to manage and clearer for users.
Step 1: create the parent category
- In the Manage workspace, go to Applications
- Click Edit form and choose your form
- Hover over the Category drop-down and click the + icon
- Leave the Parent category field empty
- Configure the category as normal
- Click Save
Step 2: assign category to parent category
For a new category:
- Open the Manage workspace and go to Applications
- Click Edit form and choose your form
- Hover over the Category drop-down and click the + icon
- Select the appropriate parent category from the Parent category drop-down
- Configure the category as required
- Click Save
For an existing category:
- Open the Manage workspace and go to Applications
- Click Edit form and choose your form
- Select the category from the Category drop-down
- Hover over it and click the settings icon
- Select the parent category from the Parent category drop-down
- Click Save
Display a sub-category on the public home page
- Open the Manage workspace and go to Settings > Applications > Categories
- Click the category you want to display
- Under 'Display category on public home page', select Yes
- Click Save
Good to know
- Parent categories act as grouping labels only and cannot be selected as application categories.
- Sub-categories appear nested beneath their parent in the application form.
- If you have several sub-categories with similar names, assign a shortcode that helps identify the parent category.
- Using clear shortcodes helps keep exports organised and easy to read.
